Barclays Mauritius - International Banking caters for the banking needs of international non-resident entities and individuals, whose primary economic interests are outside Mauritius. We offer a wide range of international products and services for global and large corporate clients, foreign institutional investors such as private equity funds, investment funds, trusts, insurance companies and high net worth individuals.

Barclays Mauritius was established in 1919 and was the first bank to obtain an international banking licence. As the pioneer of international banking in Mauritius, Barclays is strategically positioned for a new world of emerging business opportunities between Africa, Asia and the rest of the world.

Mauritius is an International Finance Centre that provides an ideal business environment for international companies. Global business companies incorporated in Mauritius engage in a wide range of activities, such as regional treasury centres, administrative headquarters, centralised procurement platform, trading offices, or distribution outlets within the vibrant Freeport.

The corporate vehicles available to carry out global business activities from Mauritius are companies holding a Category 1 Global Business Licence (GBC1) or Category 2 Global Business Licence (GBC2). Other entities available are Trusts, Protected Cell Companies, Limited Partnerships, Global Funds and Foundations.

Barclays Mauritius is part of the Barclays Africa Group which is one of the largest financial services providers in Africa. We combine our global product knowledge and regional expertise with an extensive, well established local presence across the continent.

Barclays Africa Group was formed through combining Absa Group Limited and Barclays’ African operations on 31 July 2013. Reflecting the enlarged group’s pan-African focus, our name changed from Absa Group Limited to Barclays Africa Group Limited on 2 August 2013.

Our registered head office is in Johannesburg, South Africa and we have majority stakes in banks in Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania (Barclays Bank Tanzania and National Bank of Commerce), Uganda and Zambia. We also have representative offices in Namibia and Nigeria as well as bancassurance operations in Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa and Zambia.

Barclays Bank Kenya and Barclays Bank Botswana continue to be listed on their respective stock exchanges. Barclays Bank PLC has operations in Egypt and Zimbabwe which are an integral part of our African business and continue to be run by Barclays Africa Group management.
